This Tutorial is meant for the Newbie and/or The Seasoned Webmaster.

I am NOT a Search Engine Expert nor do I profess - to be one.  I am NOT an SE GURU.  Everything that I illustrate here - You can learn too - on your own.  I just Study Search Engines - a lot - and have put this together - for your perusal.

You too can study and learn a lot from the SE's as I have from:
Webmaster World
You might even see me posting questions - at this forum.

A Cavaet

Search Engines change - as frequently as the weather.  You might often see - no particular order - in which these Parts are Illustrated.  I wish - that I could bring you from Step A - through - Step Z
But that won't happen.
The best that I can do - is interject findings - as I discover them - and then Illustrate them.
Your task - might be to assembly these Parts - and put them - in order - by your preference.

A Common Problem That Prevents Your Website From Showing Up On Search Engines

FRAMES

Too many webmasters have the problem that their web site is not listed in search engines at all.  Many search engines have problems with frames. They often only index the frameset page and not the individual frames that contain the actual content. Unfortunately, the frameset page usually doesn't have Meta tags, Title and enough content (text) to obtain a listing on a Search Engine.

What's The Solution?

Avoid frames - and use an index.html page - to begin with. !!!

BUT

If you really must use frames, consider the following points:

1. Add a description of your web site in the <noframes> area so that search engines can index that text. You should also add a link to the homepage.

2. When a search engine indexes a frame page outside of the frameset, the visitor can be left stranded and unable to link into your site. So your individual frame pages should always contain a link back into your site.

Webreference.com offers a very good introduction to frames:
